RANDOM RAMBLINGS

I just finished re-reading the book "The Shack". I am fascinated with the ideas that are presented in this book and highly recommend it to everyone.  It really gets you thinking about GOD and our relationship with Him/Her. If you haven't read it yet get a copy today and get reading. It is quite unique. And then let me know what you think.

And speaking of God . . . I have been dealing with the god's of the cyber space these past few days and I must say they too are quite amazing. We refer to these gods as TECH SUPPORT and I don't know how they do what they do but problems are solved via telephone. (If only I had a therapist who could do this!)
I bought a new router for my computer. For you folks who aren't computer savey a router seems to be the thingy that sends the Internet signal all over my house so I can use a computer in any room of my house without having to hook up to wires. It's pretty cool and still in the category of SciFi for me. But I know I had one and the guy who came to hook up our new cable boxes told me that if I got a new router it would make my computer even faster so I NEEDED a new one. As you can tell I am not as computer smart as I would like to think but off I merrily went to buy a new router. Walmart being the cheapest place in town I bought a router that had bigger numbers on the box than the one I already owned. I didn't have a clue what those numbers meant but they looked bigger and better.  And of course the price was higher than the model I already had so that sealed the deal. I brought the router home and the following day the battle began. I am very good at following directions, (except when they come from Husband), and the directions in the box were very plain and simple. Unplug everything, plug in the new router like so, power up everything and put the CD into the computer to download. NOTHING !  OK, lets try this again, and again, and again, and again. An hour into this I decided to call the cable company as suggested by the directions "If you have a problem". Two and a half hours later the very nice young man in Louisiana, who was very patient and pleasant, finally gave up and told me to call the manufactures of the router. I couldn't bear to do that right then. I repackaged the router with all intentions of returning the stupid thing and just reconnecting my OLD router. One problem, when I tried to reconnect the old one that wouldn't work either! ARGGGGGGGGGGGG   I let the weekend go by and yesterday I decided to face the demon again. This time I called Tech Support and ended up with a genius in India who spent an hour and a half with me. He was very business like at the beginning of the conversation but after many moments of quiet while waiting for the router and computer to do their things he softened up and became chatty. I think I have invited him to visit us in the US after he solved the problem and I now have fast Internet access all through my house.
My question is . . .  HOW DO THEY DO THAT FROM SO FAR AWAY? I was working with him on 2 different computers, one a Mac and one a PC and he knew what he was doing every step of the way. Genius!

And it's a good thing I have my computers working because it is a rainy day. I have a ton of little things to do, clean out drawers, up date photo albums, iron clothes but here I sit. No wonder my butt is getting wider by the day! We are supposed to go to our weekly base ball game tonight but I don't think the skies will clear. It looks like we are finally in a rainy spell. Good for the drought and my plants and me too. I love rainy days! Don't be surprised if you hear from me more often.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HUSBAND

OMG . .  .  I am about to say something nice about Husband . . .   and I am putting it in print !

In honor of our 42nd wedding anniversary tomorrow I thought I should say something nice about the man I married. You listen to my rantings all the times when I am pissed off at the poor man so now you get to see the side that I fell in love with all those years ago.
Ger and I met while we were both teaching in an elementary school on Long Island. It was G's second year of teaching so he knew EVERYONE and I was the newbie. Just out of college and into the hornets nest of 60 ankle biting kindergartners. (30 in the morning class, 30 in the afternoon class) I had no clue who else worked in the school because my days were totally wrapped up in trying to survive. But one day as I was walking past the teachers room there was a group of male teachers who I knew worked in the building but didn't have a clue as to who they were. One of them said hello and that was the start of the rest of my life. G happened upon teaching 6 years after his college graduation with a degree in business. He never took an education course in his life and had no intention of ever being a teacher. But God works in mysterious ways and there G was, a 6th grade teacher, and SINGLE! I had no intention of finding a husband and he had no intention of looking for a wife but then there we were in the same place at the same time and the rest is history. I came to realize that this man was a very fun guy to be around. He was funny and unpredictable. A favorite memory of ours is the day the 6th grader was knocking on the window of my classroom with a note from "his teacher". My class thought this was the greatest thing ever that there was a kid at the window with a note. I read the note that contained a list of about 3 questions. The questions were something like, "Are you thirsty? Are you free tonight? Would you like to go for a drink after school?" It included the instructions to answer the questions and return the note to the messenger. Now what woman in her right mind wouldn't be swept off her feet with that? I naturally answered yes to all of the above and the rest is history.
Our engagement came 2 years later and that too has a story to it.  G's family was living in Brooklyn and my family was in Queens so every once in a while we would drive in to NYC to visit the folks. On one particular weekend in April of 1968 I stayed with G's family and he and I went to the beach to fly a kite and walk by the ocean. While walking G stopped and opened a little box with a beautiful ring in it and asked me to marry him. My response . . .  "IS IT REAL?" We had never talked marriage, never really discussed "our future" and here he is offering me a ring. All I could think was that this was one of his jokes or something. Thank God he has a sense of humor and didn't just walk away from me. Instead he assured me it was indeed REAL and he did indeed want to marry me. After much excitement from me and then his family we packed up to head over to my family's home to tell my parents of our engagement. My dad was out fishing at the time but my mom was home. According to Ger my mother's response to the news was to ask me, "Are you sure you want to marry this one?" DON'T ASK! God Bless my mother, she was not the most tactful person alive. I'm sure she meant something nice but it sure did come out weird. But it only gets better . . . My father then arrives home and sees the bottle of champagne that we had brought to celebrate our engagement. My dad gets all excited and says, "How did you know I caught a stripped bass?" (And you wonder why I am such a nut, look where I came from!) After the excitement settled down we did celebrate our engagement and I know my parents were very happy for us. (Or maybe they were just very happy to finally find someone who would actually marry me.)
Ger has survived my parents, tolerated my family of kookie cousins and he has suffered me all these years. And yet no matter how much I pick on him and no matter how many faults I continually find, he still loves me.  GO FIGURE !  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HUSBAND.  I do love you !

DAMN YOU BLOOMIN' ONION

I know better . .  .  but has that ever stopped me before?  I was composing this blog in my mind at 2 AM this morning. I couldn't write it because my router is not working so I couldn't type this on the little computer in the garage, but that is a whole other blog.
After our wonderful day with Smith yesterday we all went out to dinner at Outback Steak House. K&K had planned on going out to dinner on their own but plans changed and the 5 of us went out together. Smith had a grand time playing steal the silverware and we had a delicious dinner. EXCEPT . . . when the waitress took our order she asked if we would like an appetizer and Kristen and I convinced ourselves that we ALL needed the famous Outback Bloomin' Onion. If you have never had one of these gastric explosions you haven't lived. BUT you will probably live a long long life. On the other hand, if you are a sucker for the unhealthiest foods on Earth like I am, you know how good these things are. It is an onion sliced so that it looks like an opening flower, dipped in Heaven only knows what sort of batter and then deep fried till it melts in your mouth. THAT is a Bloomin' Onion!
Normally I don't order this fantastic death bomb but since there were 4 of us to share I figured it would be a treat for everyone. Considering that Kent would not soil his stomach with such a mess, that left even more for the remaining 3 of us. Ger ate some, Kristen ate some and I pigged out. NOW, consider which one of the 4 of us does not have a gall bladder to help process this gooey mess once it hits my stomach. You would think that by this point of my life, having lived without this important organ, (not that important for most people but with MY diet it is MAJOR), for over 10 years, that I would have learned to limit my diet to foods easily digested and not something that is going to put my liver, stomach and intestines into overload. Ah No! Pass that onion and lets have at it! The onion combined with 2 very large glasses of caffeine loaded ice tea gave me a very interesting night. I fell asleep easily enough at midnight only to wake up at 2 AM with a boulder in my stomach and twitching in my body. Caffeine and grease do not make for a good nights sleep under the best of circumstances and last night was no exception. After the Pepsid Complete pill and an Alka Seltzer an hour later,I started to wander the house. I ended up channel surfing in the guest bedroom until everything finally settled at around 6 AM. Most people are getting up at that hour. I am going to sleep. I woke up at 9 only to change beds and sleep till 11 when it was time to get up to go to mass.
I swore I would not eat a thing all day today but the diner had the best blintzes in the world so maybe I will just not eat all day tomorrow.

A "WIN-WIN" DAY

I think I have mentioned before that Grand kids are the BEST !  But just in case you haven't heard it from me GRAND KIDS ARE THE BEST !
We just spent a super fantastic day with 11 month old Smith while his mom and dad went paddle boarding. For Kent's birthday Kristen gave Kent a 3 hour paddle boarding adventure only minutes from their home. If mom and dad are going out someone needs to babysit and naturally GMa and GPa were ready and willing to rush over to help out. (So it is only an hour drive south, I would drive over night for a chance to spend time with this little guy!)  We arrived at 11 and mom and dad went off (after 10 minutes of good-byes) for their afternoon of fun.  They don't have a clue what fun is!  Standing on a surf board in the broiling sun of South Florida while rowing with an oar us NOT my idea of fun. But they LOVED it and had a great time. Meanwhile, GMa and GPa (I just love these names that Kristen has christened us with. I hope  they stick!) spent the afternoon having the time of our lives with our little "Captain Destructo" The boy is actually a perfect little guy but he is a boy and loves to climb. Smith isn't walking yet but he is close. He has the best fun climbing on his knees up the 8 steps to the front door landing and then standing up to pull himself up the next flight of stairs to the bedrooms while standing and hanging on to the railing. We were up and down those stairs 20 times today! This is all being done while side stepping over the dog and 2 cats. Actually the cats have learned to keep their distance but Mookie the dog insists on being in the middle of things with the hopes that we will take her for a walk. We did take 2 walks, GPa in charge of Mookie and GMa in charge of Smith. Or maybe it was Mookie and Smith who were really in charge.
Mom and Dad arrived home after a great afternoon and we all went out to dinner to celebrate a Super Fantastic day for all.
Like I said, WIN WIN for everyone !

GOOD BYE LADY

Isn't it amazing how these pets take hold of our hearts ? I am sitting here in tears because my neighbor's dog died this morning. This wasn't even MY dog but my heart is sad any way. H thinks I am crazy and would just shake his head if he sees me crying over a dog that lived next door.
Lady moved in about 3 years ago. Her owners had just bought the house and this fat and fuzzy cocker spaniel was the first member of the family whom we met. We were outside doing something when this ball of fuzz waddled over to say hello. I think she knew I was a dog lover so she had no reservations in heading checking us out. From that moment on she knew she was always welcome.  Often we would be sitting on the patio and from the corner of our eye we would see Lady standing at our back gate. She loved to wander over to say hello, smell the different smells and always to get a "cookie". Esther, Lady's "mom" was very good in allowing me to spoil Lady. Lady would wander over, sniff all around the yard and lanai and then stand by our back doors looking at us with those HUGE brown eyes, just waiting to be let into the house to wander and check smells there. She made herself at home and would often fall asleep on our living room floor only to be found an hour later by her owners. Lady was 8 years old when her owners adopted her and she had a good long life with them. She traveled back and forth to the Florida Keys with her owners but was always happiest at home in her own house.
About a year ago Esther asked H and I if we would "dog sit" for Lady for a long weekend. Esther knew I was fond of her dog so we took Lady in for a weekend.  At first Esther just asked us to come over and walk and feed Lady but since Lady was so comfortable with our house we chose to bring her here. I had a great weekend, Lady had a great weekend, H . . . not so much. Husband has never been an animal lover and an old deaf dog just annoyed him to no end.
Did I mention Lady was deaf ? Not just hard of hearing . . . DEAF with a capital D ! This dog could NOT hear a bomb go off under her. I would go over to Esther's to get Lady and there the dog would be, sound asleep, as only a dog can be, right inside the door. I would open the door, walk in, go to the kitchen to get her food and snacks and she wouldn't hear a thing. I would have to sit on the floor next to her and gently put my hand on her head to wake her. Once she was awake she was like a puppy. Jumping up, wagging that stumpy little tail and wiggling all over. But if Lady was outside and you wanted to get her attention you had to run over to her and stand in front of her so she could see you. From there you had to resort to sign language, that she amazingly understood. Or maybe she was just so happy to see you so she would follow you any where.
About a year ago, around the time that we were hosting Lady while her owners were away, Lady started having seizures. (Now I am not saying that we had anything to do with her health problems but I have noticed that the more I am around H the more I seem to twitch.) The vet put Lady on medication and it has been controlling the seizures but there were a few set backs along the way. One weekend Lady was doing so poorly that her owners decided to euthanize Lady on Monday. By Monday the little fuzz ball was running around like she was a year old. That was 6 months ago! Yesterday Esther came over to say that Lady was not doing well and this morning I received an email that little Lady has passed away.
I know I will miss her.

JUST ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS

It's 3:30 AM and I can't sleep!    Yes!  You heard me right.   Me, the Queen of sleep, is wide awake at 3 AM.
I was asleep but then I woke up and now I can't get back to sleep. I might have something to do with sleeping till 10:30 this morning . . . or it could have been the fact that I didn't do a damn thing today except putter around the house . . . or it could be the Chocolate Walnut Rice Pudding that I created this evening and wound up eating a goodly bit of in the process.
It is all Sharon and Bob's fault ! When they arrived a week ago I had made a roast chicken dinner with rice as a side dish. Sharon and I were busy talking and catching up on months of news while I was cooking. I wasn't paying attention and poured in twice the amount of rice that I planned on making, resulting in a pot full of left over rice in my fridge. None of the other 2 meals that I cooked (we ate out most of the time) would go with rice so I needed to find a recipe that called for 3-4 cups of rice.
Sharon and Bob left yesterday and I got to cleaning out the fridge in preparation for our next set of house guests who are arriving tomorrow . . . oops, today. I happen to know that Kathy, part of the Kathy and Jim duo, loves rice pudding. Especially rice pudding with raisons. We have known K&J even longer than Sharon and Bob. We met while we were all teaching in "C.I." (Central Islip).  We used to spend a lot of time together traveling to Cape Cod for a week right after school ended in June. We camped together, partied together and raised our kids together. Jim and Husband worked together for years running the Town Recreation Program for the Handicapped. Bottom line, we got to know each others likes and dislikes and rice pudding is on the "LIKE" list. (FYI . . . Jim loves Pistashio ice cream, but not with Chineese food. I never saw anyone so sick in my life!)
Back to the pudding . . . I had rice, I had milk and I had raisons so I had a dessert in the making for tomorrow . . . oops . . .  tonight.
Thanks to Google I came up with a quick and easy recipe for rice pudding made from cooked rice. I put all the ingredents into the pan and put it on the stove to SIMMER. Trouble was I was doing 3 different things at once, as usual, and the milk and rice burned. Just a little, but enough to weld the burned rice to the bottom of my corning wear pan and to add a nice charred flavor to the rice. Charocoal flavor is great on burgers but not in pudding. I quickly poured the rice and milk into a different bowl but it was too late. That lovely burned flavor just wouldn't go away. So . . . what to do, what to do?  Throw all the rice away? OR . . . maybe if I add a little vanilla and cinnamon and nutmeg that will mask the taste of my faux pas? I have nothing to loose except some rice and milk so what the heck, lets give it a try.
Do you know that cinnamon masks NOTHING? But seeing how cinnamon is now the new miracle cure for Heaven only knows what I had nothing to lose by adding 1/2 the jar. (Do you know you can now buy Cinnamon Pills? They had them in the pharmacy section of Sam's Club . . . No Joke!) But unfortunately even 1/2 the bottle did nothing to mask the flavor of BURN. But what if I add CHOCOLATE? Chocolate would cover the taste of burn, right? WRONG! First I added cocco powder . . . Nothing! Then I added a half jar of Nutella that I had left from when Kaelin was here. (Kaelin LOVES Nutella. She has "Tella" on her pancakes and "Tella" and cream cheese sandwiches for lunch because she is allergic to peanuts and can't eat peanut butter.)
And the final touch . . . WALNUTS ! Walnuts won't mask anything but how can you eat anything chocolate without adding walnuts?  Stir it all together and somewhere under the chocolate, nut, rasin, cinnamon rice pudding there is still a hint of burned rice.

Oh Well, we'll probably eat out any way and I can feed the pudding to H. He and I will eat anything with chocolate in it.

Oh Yea, so the bottom line to this whole story is, DON'T EAT ANYTHING WITH COCCO IN IT JUST BEFORE YOU GO TO BED!  It's now 4:30 AM and I am still wide awake. I'll probably fall asleep at 6AM and sleep till noon and screw up tomorrow night's sleep. Maybe I'll put some milk on the stove and have a cup of warm milk. All I have to do is let it simmer . . .

I COULDN'T EAT ANOTHER THING

BURP !  It seems that we have done nothing but eat, eat, and eat some more these last 5 days that Sharon and Bob were here. WE haven't sat still for more than an hour a day but when we sit we eat !
Since S&B are leaving tomorrow we thought we would end off our fun filled week with a LOBSTER dinner. It is sort of a tradition for the 4 of us to celebrate each summer with a lobster party. From the  time we first met our neighbors on Tyler Avenue in NY we have been celebrating summer with beer and lobster. There were a few incidents over the years that were a result of too much beer but no one ever got arrested and we never lost a child. As the years progressed and the kids got older the parties continued. S&B lucked out because their kids didn't like lobster and were always happy with a hot dog. Unfortunately we had introduced our kids to lobster at a very early age and they all demanded a lobster of their own. Good thing H had a second job.
So tonight was our farewell dinner for this visit and it was EXCELLENT !  A few tater tots on the side, a salad to reduce the guilt and 4 very fine 2 pound lobsters. Sharon and I had had a "Zombie" to drink earlier in the afternoon so we stuck with water for dinner while the boys continued on with their beer fest. It was PERFECT! Then we were so full all we could do was plop down in front of the TV for the rest of the night.
I'll be real sad to see Sharon leave but while she was here we set up a road trip to Ohio for August.
But that is another blog for another night.
For now it is time to get some sleep. We were up early today to go to 8:45 mass and then breakfast, which just happened to be very delicious and filling. I had a Lox Benny. Eggs Benedict with lox on the English muffin instead of Canadian bacon.
I think I'll take an Alka Seltza before sleep tonight.

HAPPY TOOTH

Happy first tooth, Smith !
Happy anniversary Kent and Kristen !
Happy new home Kent and Kristen and Smith !
HAPPY SUMMER VACATION !

So much to celebrate, Kent and Kristen had a party to celebrate it ALL ! Today Sharon and Bob, H and I drove down to Ft. Lauderdale to the K's new home to partake in the celebration, along with some neighbors, co workers and friends. It was a GOOD party and a good time was had by all !

Kent and Kristen decided to give up their house in Wilton Manors in favor of a town house, also in Wilton Manors. Both places had 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. Town house is much cheaper to run monthly and there is no yard work or up keep out side. There is a small patio that overlooks a canal and it is just beautiful. There are stairs for Smith to climb and for the dog and 2 cats to chase each other up and down. It seems to be a win win for everyone.

The drive down was uneventful and we had a great time meeting friends of the happy family. Smith even had a little friend come to the party and the 2 boys had nothing to do with each other. Kent BBQ'd and the beer flowed. It was a super hot day so everyone stayed in doors but there was plenty of room for all.

I think we exhausted Sharon and Bob these past few days and I get the feeling they are looking forward to going home and resting. They still haven't found any place to rent but they sure are getting to see the East coast of Florida.

GOIN' TO THE DOGS

Today's adventure with BFF and her hubby was a trip to the dog track. WE made a donation and came home.  The end.

Well, the day was a little more adventurous than that.  We slept in, lounged in and around the pool, took naps, ate and ate and ate and then we went to the dog track, made a donation and came home.

I did win $7.80.  And Sharon won $4.80.  And we had a real good time !

Sharon is sun burned.  Bob is sun burned.  Neither one believed us when we told them to put on sun screen.

It's just wonderful having these 2 people here with me.  I haven't laughed this hard in a long time and I love the fact that when I am with them I get to behave silly and have some honest to goodness fun.  It is times like this when I realize how very dull and boring my life with H is.

Hooray for friends !

HAVING A GREAT TIME

My BFF and her husband are visiting and we are having a great time. They only arrived yesterday and we haven't stopped talking and laughing since they got here.
Yesterday from the airport we went to our favorite "WELCOME TO FLORIDA" restaurant and had drinks and snacks at the water front bar. Actually the bar is in the water sticking out from the restaurant into the inter coastal waterway. Thus the name, THE WATERWAY.  It was a great start to their visit.
Today we all loafed around and swam in our pool till it was time to go get something to eat. Sharon and Bob's biggest complaint about coming to visit us is that all we do is eat! Which is true but living in South Florida there are just so many fantastic places to dine that we have to show them as many as we can on their visits. IF they would come down more often we could slow down on the eating. Today's adventure was to the jungle and GUANNABANAS. Once again we headed for the bar and had drinks and snacks. Yesterdays celebrating left me drinking ice tea today but the boys had a drink for us. The snacks were EXCELLENT and Bob and I bought some "jelly" sauce to bring home. It was served with the chicken and conch fritters and was soooooooooooooooo  good we decided to get some for the next couple of days. From there it was back to the house to rest and recover before tonight's base ball game.   It was an "iffy" night so we sat up under the overhang at the stadium and sure enough around the 4th inning it started to rain.  The game went on for another 6 innings when our team hit a home run and won the game.
Now it's time to get some sleep before we go condo hunting tomorrow. Oh, did I mention that Sharon and Bob are looking for a place to rent this coming winter? Wouldn't that just be the best.  Having my BFF here for 3 months!  I can't wait !

ALL IS WELL

It's OK Carol,  I haven't killed husband nor am I likely to do so. He has the pension and medical so I have to keep him around for a while.
Sorry to worry you with that last blog.  As I have often said, my blog is a vent and boy oh boy did I need to vent !  All is well and returned to "normal" which is actually quite sad and frightening but it seems to work for us.

In the mean time all the grand kids have gone home. Such a bitter-sweet parting.  I love them to pieces but I do not have the energy that I used to and am exhausted by the time our visit is over. I think the thing I miss the most is the morning wake up. Now for a sleeper like me you would never think I would enjoy being woken up but it is just the BEST when done by a grand child. Each one has their very own style.
Abby, being the first, has set the bar pretty high. She always waits till grandpa comes out of the bedroom and then she sneaks in to yell "Boo" with hopes of catching me asleep. Following that she climbs into the bed and we snuggle and play "baby bird". This is a game where you make a nest of pillows and blankets for Abby, aka baby bird, to curl up in.  From there we enter into the world of baby bird in her nest and all the adventures it involves. At times there are marauding raccoons that are trying to attack our nest, other times baby bird is learning to fly. Sometimes it is just listening to grandma tell a story.  What ever we wind up doing there is always a LOT of giggling involved. Abby is now 6 so I am sure our days of "baby bird" are coming to an end but I thing we will manage to come up with some excuse for staying in bed as long as we can.
Kaelin is also a great snuggle bug. Her style of waking grandma is to come running into my bedroom and run straight for my side of the bed where she squeals "GRANDMA" like she is totally surprised to find me there. No matter where we are she ALWAYS seems truly delighted to see me each morning. What a great feeling that is !  From there Kaelin snuggles into the bed with me but doesn't stay too long unless we pop a video into the TV. Kaelin has places to go and things to do so only the TV will distract her from her next adventure.  As you can see from the photo I introduced Kaelin to BREAKFAST IN BED this past visit to our house. The child was up at 6:45 AM so it seemed like a nice way to extend our quiet morning. It was a HUGE success and will be repeated when ever Kaelin visits.

And last but not least is my little happy man, Smith. Smith has had a couple of sleep overs here at Casa Grandma and we have had a great time every time. Because Smith is still a "little guy" grandma worries about him sleeping all by himself in the crib in the guest room. So I get to "camp out" in the bed in the guest room with the little man.  He is a super sleeper, like all my grand kids (chips off the ole grandma). Once he goes to sleep that is that but I like being near "just in case". In the morning I will hear little noises coming from the crib and when I open my eyes there stands Smith, hanging on to the rail of the crib, all smiles. AND HE HAS THE BEST SMILE EVER !  Now that there are FINALLY 2 teeth in that mouth the smile is even better. He just stands in the crib, grinning like a silly fool and making the best noises ever.

And so, I miss my little guys. Kaelin and Finley were here for 2 weeks but didn't stay with us. We had 3 sleep over nights at grandmas and they were the best. We won't get to see Abby and Roman again until September but Smith is on the agenda for next weekend!  We will even get to baby sit him in 2 weeks.
When I look at these angels I can't imagine ever being sad or angry. They are the lights of my life.

ONE SNARL TOO MANY

I have been pushed over the edge today by Him. Husband, not God. Although Husband thinks he is God.
You know I love my grand kids to pieces and will do anything with and for them. Kaelin has been visiting for about 2 weeks, not staying here with us but we see her almost every day. My theory is that H is jealous. Smith lives about 45 minutes away and last weekend we baby sat him and the dog. H is twice as jealous. You know that if I am going to give anyone attention H will be last on the list because he is such a PIG. I AM DONE !  No More ! Snarl at me, grunt, snap your fingers, point, pout, do whatever the F you want to but I AM DONE ! H can go to hell and back and I will not blink an eye. I am tired of his ugly face and nasty ways. You out there who know this "wonderful man" will not understand any of this. My best friends have seen "the dark side" and validate me in what I think. For years I thought it was me. I must be doing something wrong. I can't do enough right. I must be hearing what he says wrong because H is such a nice guy.
NOPE!   H is a shit and a half. He is his father's son and I AM DONE.

THE BABY OR THE GLUE GUN

In the course of a day you make hundreds of decisions. "Should I stop for gas now or wait till later?", "Should I have the chicken or beef?". "Should I wear the black pants or the blue?"  Nothing earth shattering but times when you have to pause to THINK. My days are a bit more complicated living with this Husband of mine. I make decisions to either tell Husband that he has a sock hanging out of his back pocket or just to let him go to the store that way.  Or perhaps the decision is to sit and watch Fox News with Husband or have to listen to his synopsis of the news at a later time. These are NOT easy choices but tonight's choice was a doozie!
Kaelin's mom and dad had gone out to dinner leaving Kaelin AND Finley here with Grandma and Grandpa. Kaelin and I had been doing projects earlier in the evening and Finn had been snoozing on a chair. Finn woke up and wanted to eat NOW! I put in a call to "the bull pen" for Husband and he dragged himself out of the recliner in front of the TV and came into the living room where Kaelin, Finn and I were. Now the decision had to be made as to which child I would entrust to this man. Husband is NOT good at baby bottles. He tends to forget what he is doing and end up with the bottle in the poor child's ear before his focus returns. (I swear he suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder. No Joke!) But I also know that Husband is about as "crafty" as he is handy and that is not saying much. We have had to call Handymen in to change light bulbs! So now I have a dilemma, give husband the baby or entrust him with Kaelin and a project that involves a hot glue gun. It was not an easy choice to make. I finally decided that Kaelin could handle things if Grandpa got out of control so I took Finn and Grandpa got Kaelin. Luckily Kaelin got tired of the project before too much damage could be done by either of them and Finn ate quickly. I handed off Finn to Husband with hopes of Grandpa getting a burp or two from the little man while I bathed Kaelin, washed her hair, creamed her eczema riddled little body, brushed teeth, watched a video and snuggled her into bed for the night. By the time all that was done Finn was ready for his next bottle and I was ready to sit and feed him. Finley woke up after that bottle and was happy to sit in his car seat and watch Grandma clean up the kitchen and dinning room from dinner three hours ago.

Kaelin is now sound asleep in the guest bed room for her sleep over with Grandma and Grandpa. Finn has gone home with mom and Dad. Grandpa has showered and is in bed after his hard evening of TV watching and Grandma only has one more decision to make for today. . .  SHOULD I KILL GRANDPA IN HIS SLEEP OR LET HIM LIVE ANOTHER DAY . . . ?

GOOD NIGHT ANIMALS

Yesterday Grandpa and I took Kaelin to LION COUNTRY SAFARI !  We had a ball !  The child is a trip and a half and had us laughing most of the time.  We arrived at cousin Ann's condo where Kaelin and family are staying this trip to be greeted by a super excited little girl wearing her leaf mask. Don't ask ! I would show you a picture but I am to tired to figure out why my computer isn't showing the last thousand pictures I have down loaded.
Any way . . .  Off we went to Lion Country and we had a great time. First we drove through the safari part where the animals roam free. Kaelin was very interested in all the animals and checked out their feet and other body parts. She figured out (in her mind) who the daddy was and who the mommy and kids were. Grandpa showed her how the daddy lion has all the hair around his face and grandma made her laugh with my imitations of the mommy lion sprawled out under the tree. Once we finished our safari we entered the park where there are rides, a water park and a giraffe who loves to be fed lettuce. All of this was a huge hit with Kaelin. She rode on everything, ate her first corn dog and loved it, played at her first water park and just plain wore us out. As we got in the car at 4:25 PM ready to head home to mom and dad Kaelin asked it we could go see the animals ONE MORE TIME to say good night to them. The safari park closes at 4:30 so we zipped around the parking lot and headed into the safari park for one more ride. The animals were actually more animated at this hour than they had been at 11AM so we got to talk to them all, up close and personal. (There also were only 2 other cars in the entire park at that hour so we had the place to ourselves. Well, us and about a dozen rhinos, 60 zebras and any number of deer, antelope, water buffalo, wildebeest, etc. Not to mention the ostriches that are running all over the place.)

We finally got home around 7, had a late dinner out with mom and dad and then we all slept well for the night!  As Kaelin got into her car to go back to the condo she even told us GOOD NIGHT !
