I can't let this go by un commented on . . . since I have Dwayne in my life I have not had the "need" to blog nor the time to write. I am HAPPY and busy. I am ALSO watching a ridiculous amount of sports. (The things we do when we enjoy the company of a person.) Dwayne arrived down here mid December so we started with Football and then went right into Hockey, Mr. D being a HUGE fan of the Detroit Red Wings. And now that it is March we are juggling hockey with basketball and the college teams fighting for top spot of BEST COLLEGE TEAM IN THE COUNTRY ! (Big Deal for these kids, not so big deal for me but it is entertaining and frightening watching a grown man get so excited that I fear for his health!)
Through all this sport mania I am entertaining myself with the names of some of these teams from all of the areas of sports. I have to ask myself HOW did some of these teams EVER settle on THAT name ? REALLY ??? The two that come to mind are the college basket ball teams, The Terrapins and The Ducks. SERIOUSLY ??????? How intimidated are you as an opposing team when the "Mighty Terrapins" (According to wikipedia,"a terrapin is one of several small species of turtle living in fresh or brackish water.") come "charging" (do turtles "charge") onto the court? Picture in your mind a HERD OF TURTLES and how sure are you that you have this game won ! It's a mind game. Why would you name your team after a TURTLE ?????????
No less a DUCK ??? The Ducks ?? The Ducks ?? Have you ever heard of a flock of ducks charging down down the court ?? Wings flapping, quacking loudly, feathers flying, duck poop flinging but shooting baskets . . . I think not ! ONCE AGAIN . . . WHO names their team THE DUCKS ? QUACK QUACK ????
GO PRO, . . . PENGUINS ? Penguins waddle ? They don't skate? Marlins are fish, How can they hit or catch a baseball ? TAMPA BAY LIGHTENING got it right. BRUINS ! GIANTS!
SENATORS . . . WAY WAY WAY off base. Senators should be from Washington DC and they would never win because they would never leave one side of the arena to cross the center line to score.
