TRUCKS AND DUCKS AND MUD PUDDLES

We just got home from a fantastic and DIRTY day with Smith. Ger and I were up at SIX AM this morning, way way earlier than I am used to but for my grand kids NOTHING is impossible. WE had to be at Smith's house at 8 and not knowing what we might run into on the roads between here and there we left plenty of time for error.  We arrived with plenty of time to spare so we made a stop at Macky D's for some breakfast to go. Since Smith had been up since 5:45 AM (so his not so happy mom told us) he was ready for a second breakfast at 8. Dad had already left for work and mom made a B line out the door after grandma told her to "GO!". Smith, Grandpa and I settled down in front of the TV for some breakfast but I gave up after about 3 bites of egg and a half of a biscuit. Between Smith wanting to play and the dog trying to steal anything and every thing off our plates I was done! Smith and I played inside and outside, up stairs and down stairs until we finally convinced him to get out of his jammies and into some clothes so we could go out in the car.
First stop . . . Home Depot. Now this little boy, Smith, is only 18 months old but he is a MAN! No sooner did we pull into the parking lot of HD than the boy started yelling "TRUCK!". As you would expect there are quite a few trucks at Home Depot. Big and little, pick ups and trailer and not a one went by un noticed by Smith. It took us 15 minutes to get out of the parking lot and into the store because we had to stop and admire each truck that was parked. What is it with little boys and trucks?  Once we got into the store Smith and Grandpa both got a glazed look on their faces and went into a trance. Smith and his GPa walked from one end of the store to the other and no less than 10 people stopped to stare at this little man pushing a broom along in front of him. (We made the mistake of walking past the display of brooms and Smith would not walk another step until we gave him a broom to push.) Next to vacuums, brooms are in the top 10 things that this child is obsessed with. The were many chuckles and "AWS" as we walked around the store and only that the store alarm went off and distracted little man were we able to leave the broom and get out of the store with only our purchases. We did leave with wet feet because on our cruise through the garden department Smith found numerous puddles to dance in.
Once we got home we headed for the patio to re pot mommy's 4 little geraniums. That's when things really got down and dirty. Once the plants were in their new pots we had to turn on the hose to water them so the entire patio turned into one huge mud puddle. Good thing for the washer and dryer.
While Smith watered Gpa's feet I made some lunch for us and then it was a quick clean up, lunch and a nap. Grand pa took advantage of nap time to power wash the muddy patio and remove all the incriminating evidence.
But even with all this fun going on the high point of the day was the 2 FIRE RESCUE trucks that came down the street shortly after Smith got up from his nap. God Bless Grandpa, he scooped up Smith and headed out the door to see what was going on and the 2 boys walked down the street to find the fire trucks. I can't tell you how much the LITTLE guy loved seeing those trucks right there on his street. The poor lady who was being taken to the hospital probably didn't need an audience but it was great entertainment for us. Smith pointed and talked and just plain wiggled with excitement. Once again . . . What is it with BOYS and trucks ?
When Smith's parent arrived home this afternoon I told them that the amount of dirt on their child was in direct relation to the amount of fun we had today. AND BOY OH BOY DID WE HAVE FUN!
